Parallel 13: Internet empowerment for science communication

There was an upsurge of research on copper oxide high-temperature superconductors (COHS) all over the world during 1986-1987. In this upsurge, Chinese superconducting physicists represented by Zhao Zhongxian achieved the world-class achievement of "independent discovery of COHS in liquid nitrogen temperature region", and they were the first to announce its ingredients internationally. The related achievements won the first prize of the Third World Scientific Physics Prize in 1986 and the National Natural Science Prize in 1989. Because of the great theoretical and application value of COHS in liquid nitrogen temperature region, the governments of various countries including China organized large-scale Tackle hard-nut problems in science and technology. Through the present of a letter that Cai Jianhua in Australia sent to China and other new historical materials, the information transmission and research process of COHS in China during 1986-1987 were sorted out, and its influences were analyzed. The present of COHS was a milestone for the development of Superconducting Physics in China, due to bring unprecedented international attentions to Chinese Superconducting Physics and directly contribute to the establishment of National Lab for Superconductivity. At the same time, this process also revealed original innovation in science was closely related to the way of scientific research organization. The administration should fully respect the research interests of scientists and create an unimpeded international academic exchange channel and favorable academic atmosphere for their free exploration on the exploratory study.
