Design:The study, conducted in China from January 19 to March 12,2020, was a cross-sectional study and the questionnaire was designed by the investigators based on previous studies and modified according to expert opinion.Data were processed using chi-square test and ordered logistic regression analysis.

Setting:This is a non-interventional, cross-sectional, stratified cluster random sampling online survey of community residents in ten provinces of China.

Participants:In this study, 2846 questionnaires were distributed, 2679 valid questionnaires were issued, and the effective recovery rate was 94.13%.

Results:A total of 2,679 questionnaires were included, with a female audience of 54.2%, the largest age group of 31-50 (35.7%), and more than a quarter were full-time students (27.4%).In terms of the content of health science, community residents have relatively low demand for cosmetic surgery (X=1.46), food safety (X=3.17), rational drug use (X=3.07) and disease prevention (X=3.14); in terms of channels and forms, health science is diversified, with strong demand for various channels and forms. The respondents most hope to understand the content of health popular science through interactive popular science popularization (X=2.64,56.7%) and video form (X=2.86,64.9%).Logistic regression shows that age and current occupation are significant factors affecting the demand of health science content; gender, age, highest education, current occupation, current living or working location will affect the channel demand of health science in the community residents; gender does not affect the formal demand of health science.

Conlusions:Community residents have a high demand for the content, channels and forms of health science popularization, showing a diversified trend, among which the science popularization content of food safety and disease prevention, interactive science popularization channels and video science popularization forms are the top priorities of health science popularization needs.Respondents living or working in cities had less demand for popular science channels and forms than rural respondents. Therefore, it is strongly suggested that science popularization people should innovate the communication channels and forms of health science popularization to meet the demand of Internet + health science popularization.Enhance the pertinence and selectivity of health science popularization, meet the needs of different groups of people, and realize accurate science popularization.
